Jason Wee (b. 1979)
BIOGRAPHY
Jason Wee is a writer, contemporary artist, curator, and photographer. His works explore alternative ways of interpretation that eschew authoritative narratives and favour polyphony and difference.
Jason is the author of four poetry collections: The Monsters Between Us (2013) and An Epic of Durable Departures (2018), which was a Singapore Literature Prize finalist in 2020, In Short, Future Now (2020), which was a finalist for the Gaudy Boy Poetry Prize, and From A (Undesirable ) Diary (2023), a finalist for the Singapore Literature Prize in 2024. His work has also been published in Lambda Literary, Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, Fence, SAND Berlin, Cordite and other local poetry anthologies.
Jason has also co-written an interdisciplinary interactive play, Tongues (2012), with Sean Tobin, which was performed at the Singapore Fringe Festival in 2012. Beyond that, he has published My Suit (2011), and his short story “The City Beneath the City” was published in Best New Singaporean Short Stories: Volume Three, ed. Cyril Wong.
Jason was an editor at SOFTBLOW and has edited other publications such as SQ21: Singapore Queers in the 21st Century (2006) and Boring Donkey Songs (2017).
He lives in Singapore and New York.
